I LOVE my MacBook Pro and wanted to get a cover to protect it from the “elements” = kids, beverages, dust, random scratches, etc. I couldn’t find anything retail, so I went online and couldn’t be more pleased with the ipearl mCover. It’s exactly what I was looking for [and looks great!] I also ordered a keyboard cover and am very satisfied with the items.

history help me out please!!!!?

  1. Exactly the same cover being sold at Apple Store.
Pros: Looks great, fits great (July 2010), protects your MPB, and nothing more I can ask for.
    Cons: none

  2. I’ll give my opinions without going into much detail on the product’s features, since you can find dozens of reviews for nearly identical products from Speck elsewhere on this site.

First, since this is the first review of this particular model… From what I can tell, what differentiates this product from previous models is that this one has a very subtle notch near the power port that allows the redesigned 2010 MagSafe connector to be connected in such a way that the cord runs away from the user. This is almost unnoticeable, but helps the MagSafe get a good, secure connection. This may have been existent on previous models, but I can’t say for sure.

My general impression is that, while functional, this case will make your notebook seem less premium in a couple of ways:

    1) The added bulk obviously alters the form factor of the notebook. To me, It’s a worthwhile trade-off, since I can always pull the notebook out of the case when I want to return it to its sleek roots.

    2) In my experience, the added weight that comes along with any case is particularly noticeable with the lid, and this one is no exception. While the Macbook Pro’s hinge has plenty of strength to tolerate the added weight, adding the case makes it much easier to open/adjust/close the lid anytime it is working with gravity. I personally HATE a loose screen hinge, so while this case doesn’t actually make the hinge any looser, it still bothers me that it FEELS looser.

Despite what may have seemed like a negative experience, I have found this to be a very good product, but not one without some drawbacks.

Other thoughts: As strange as it might look, I may end up using this case without the lid portion while I’m just at home, since most scratching opportunities will arise when setting the notebook down.

  3. Even though the price could be lower, the Speck Satin Black looks great on my 2010 MBP 13. It’s a simple snap on and snap off design and it fits my MBP like a glove. The satin coating is smooth but durable and it does not attract fingerprints. All the ports are unobstructed and the glowing purple apple is quite nice. Weight and bulk are added though but that is simply reasonable for 24/7 protection.

  4. Just got it. Snapped right into place. Fits like a glove and leaves the outlet areas uncovered. Excellent fit and finish. My brand new macbook pro won’t get scratched and looks cool too. The apple shines through on top… Elegant cover for a beautiful machine!

  5. I recently purchased this easel for oil/acrylic painting. I normally use a 11×14 canvas and it fits in the easel clip like a glove.

For being as lightweight and simple as it is, it’s very sturdy.

I was very pleased with this purchase and would highly recommend it to anyone who needs a small compact lightweight easel.

  6. The easel is what I expected: lightweight and multi-functional. The storage bag is perfect for transporting it. I wanted an easel that I can display something on (not use for painting–I don’t think it is strong enough for that, but an artist friend of mine says it would be great for plein air painting with some extra support added–like some sandbags!)and have the flexibility of either displaying it as a stand-alone easel or sitting on a table top. This does the trick.

The price was perfect–but the shipping cost was almost equal to the price (which I only saw at the last moment since I am a PRIME member of Amazon and don’t pay for shipping on each individual item that is shipped –from Amazon). This was shipped from Ben Franklin and took quite some time to arrive–that is the one negative about this purchase–and the $11 shipping cost seemed a bit steep. Other than that–the easel is exactly the lightweight, multi-functional easel I was looking for. So all told–it was worth buying.

  7. The product was represented accurately and the shipping time was faster than expected. This is a great easel.

  8. The Lightweight Aluminum Easel is terrific for my purposes of displaying a display board that doubles as a “white board”. This easel is very easy to extend and adjust. The light weight and compact size make it ideal for traveling and quick set-up and take-down. I would like to have had a better picture of the easel before I purchased it. I was concerned initially that a easel this inexpensive was of high enough quality to hold up and fulfill my needs. I do not regret the risk I took in purchasing this product.

  9. there is a misconception. the description could have been more clear. this is for the macbook pro 13.3 inch NOTTTT the new 13 inch i had to return mine. BE AWARE! 13.3 NOT 13

  10. I bought a clear one which I liked so much that I bought this black one for a little variety. Fits perfectly. After dropping my MacBook without a cover and scratching it, I learned my lesson. This will definitely help protect my laptop.

  11. This cover, while functional, didn’t fit my ‘10 MBP quite perfectly. The top is a little loose and bulges up in the middle, and the bottom fits everywhere except right next to the power port, where it blocks the power cable from making a solid connection if you plug it in so the cord is headed away from the user. In addition, it looks a little cheap, and I wasn’t expecting the plastic top to be frosted around the edges and over the apple logo. All in all, it works, and is a decently functional case — just not quite what I expected from the picture, and not perfectly molded to the macbook.

  12. PROS:
    - Cheaper than overpriced competitors
    - Easy installation
    - Protects MacBook from casual scratches and minor damage
    - Retractable feet
    - Heat venting
    - Allows access to all ports and the battery status indicator
    - Allows the Apple logo to shine through (if you care)

    CONS:
    - Doesn’t quite allow the newer style magsafe power connector to be fully seated in the “cord toward the back” position. This won’t matter if you’re on WiFi, but it is annoying when trying to connect to an ethernet hard line.
    - Not a 100% perfect fit. There may be a loose spot here or there where the case grips your MacBook. I suspect this may be more of a hit-or-miss quality control issue than a design flaw (meaning your mileage may vary depending what the assembly line happens to give you).
    - Won’t win any beauty pageants (not hard to look at, though)

  13. I absolutely LOVE this cover! The color is exactly what I wanted and everyone complements me on the green! It does exactly what it is supposed to do (protect my macbook pro) and it is aesthetically pleasing. I didn’t want to spend $50 on a cover from apple so i searched in amazon and this is what I bought. If you have a mac then you defiantly should buy a case, and this is exactly what you need to buy!

  14. Everything fit together perfectly and easily. It didn’t take me long to realize the added security it gave in knowing that my macbook was really protected. Great looking and easy to clean as well. An absolute necessity for every college student.GREEN mCover® Hard Shell Case for 13-inch aluminum A1278 MacBook Pro (13.3-inch diagonal screen, Black Keyboard)

  15. Of all the accessories I ordered for my MacBook Pro, this was the one I was most looking forward to – I guess I allowed others’ reviews of it to create greater expectations then it deserved, imo. It does what it’s supposed to, it protects the unit; but I have since found myself wondering why I would take such a beautiful piece of equipment & cover it with cheap looking plastic?!! Yes, I want to keep the MBP protected and looking nice, especially since I’m hard on things, but I think I’d be much happier with a sleeker looking cover, even if it means a greater cost. [addition: since posting this review, I did look at others and found one I LOVE for just $5 more; I'll be selling this one very soon! I won't adjust my rating for this one; the fault is not with the product, but with my preferences and tastes; I would just suggest to prospective buyers that you think about how you want your elegant MPB to look with a cover, if you're not picky, this is a great bargain, and the choice of colors is good; if you want a little more style, there are nicer alternatives for just a little more $$]

The fit is good, although every time I open it I feel like I’m going to snap it off; it hasn’t happened (yet), but that just adds to my overall hesitancy of the product. As others have pointed out, the plastic feet are hard to move up & down; seems that metal clips would have been of better use here, those could at least be ‘replaced’ or rigged if they broke off, whereas the plastic ones, once broken would not be easy to fix. I don’t see myself using them much, if at all, so this isn’t a concern for me, but it might be very important to someone else.

  16. I love my mcover! My siser bought the fifty dollar counterpart and mine is so much better. I love the bright colors and I get tons of compliments. Don’t miss out on this great item!

  17. To anyone that rated this less than 4 stars is literally crazy. If you look at different products online you have people rating something brilliant a 1 star or a 2 star. These types of people are freakin crazy. I was skeptical in buying a cover or my macbook because of dummys writing reviews scaring you from purchasing something as brilliant as this case. I got this case in and have been using it for couple weeks. It was the best purchase I have made for my laptop. At first I was reluctant to spend any more money… but YOU NEED THIS CASE. It is a life saver. I can’t say enough GREAT things about it. I love love love it, and it protects well… adds a layer of protection from small bumps,… rubbing,… setting down…. it is a must buy, and for the price??? I am blown away.

  18. This case looks amazing; very classy and protects well. A nice alternative to all the other plastic cases. The only drawback was that the sleep light is covered. Not a major issue though. Love the ‘leather’ exterior texture and the suede inner lining. Would highly recommend this case.

  19. Having read the other reviews, I expected something decent for the price, but was pleasantly surprised when I took this out of the box. Other reviews (and Macally’s own website) suggest that this is imitation leather, but you’d be hard pressed to tell the difference. Clipped on in seconds, fits VERY well, and construction seems better than I was anticipating. This review is based on the product installed on a 2010 model 13 inch Macbook Pro.

My only gripe is the Macally logo – it is a bit more noticable than expected, although not horrible.

No issues with heat that I can tell -I fired up Temperature Monitor, and when performing “normal” functions I saw no increase at all.
I put the laptop under stress, running a Window 7 virtual machine along with terminal commands to completely max out the CPU. With the fans on full-blast, temperatures were about 4-5 degrees warmer with the case on (85-90 degrees C). Opening the lid all the way (blocking the rear vent) drove the temps to about 90-92 degrees. Removing the case entirely, temps were in the 82-85 degree range. Again, this is completely stressing out the system. Oddly enough, when I put the case back on, temps stayed in the lower 80 degree range, The rated max for the CPU is 105, so we’re still well within normal ranges. During normal use (web browser, email, etc. running), temps dropped quickly back into the lower 50 degree range.

All in all, very satisfied. Does not add much, if any bulk (a bit more than 1/16th of an inch or so per side). Adds a bit of weight, but not enough that I’d complain.

For the price? it may be the best deal around. I’d be impressed with it at 3x the price I paid.
