I owned this for about two months before the fan in it stopped working. I kept it clean, tried not to overuse it, etc, etc. Sometimes when I tilt it on it’s side the fans will run again, but even then, only sometimes. For the time that it worked, it did wonders, but now I’m back to square one.
Honestly, spend a few extra dollars and buy a higher quality fanning lap desk. This one isn’t worth it.

I need help organizing my room!!!!?
Before I start, thanks for reading this!!So….. I have what you could call a bedroom on the small end. It is 10ftx10.5ft, and I have a ton of trouble keeping it organized. I have 2 problems:One, how do I clean it? It is really messy and I don’t know where to start. Two, how do I keep it clean? I have a lot of trouble with this. Here is some info that may help:Furniture:I have a desk that is 4 ft long and 2 ft wide. It has two tiny drawers and a hutch with some small shelves I use for displaying little keepsakes. My model horses are on top of my hutch. I love them and could never put them away. I use a little wooden filing cabinet with a shelf for my bedside table, and I put my earring tree, clock, Writing desk Dresser lamp, etc. on it.3 bookshelves that are always filled to the brim. I love to read.My bunk bed. My dilemma with this is whichever bunk I don’t sleep on gets stuff piled on it, for instance, my guitar and electric piano for writing songs. My shelves in my closet, which are large and deep. They are packed with art supplies, sewing materials, clothes, papers, finished crafts with nowhere to go (Like my dragon sculpture), my horseback riding stuff I rarely use, clothes, etc. My problem with these is, how do I keep them organized? I have a small rod in there for my formal clothes, so dresses, etc.My dresser. It has three drawers, but I only use 2 for clothes. The other I use for hairbrushes, my favorite sweatshirt, clothes for the next day, ponytail holders, bobby pins, etc. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to put away all my clean clothes. My floor!!!! I seem to put stuff down on every flat surface. I have a checklist on my wall for all this to help me check it off as I clean, but it doesn’t seem to be working!!! Help!!!!!I want to save my parents money though!!!!<`\__~ (( //I would love ideas on how to make a reading area that simulated a window seat without taking up a ton of space!!!I mean something that simulates a window seat, ie the same effect. Also, I have a cat, and since he was a stray we took in and he fights with our other one, his litter box is in my room and he tracks litter everywhere!!!! How can I work with this problem as well?

  1. I purchase this to replace my broken Targus Chill Pad. I must say I did pay $30 at Staples but believe there other sites that have it for cheaper.

I must say it feels comfortable on my lap, stays firm on the table and hasnt given me not one problem. If your a bit picky you might fine the fans a bit loud other then that there is no con YET. I have had this for about a month now and it is amazing. Laptop stays cool, it says the rubber doesn’t allow your laptop to slip which is true unless your really forcing it to come down which is a great add on.(My old Targus Chill Pad would have me always scared of my HP falling or watching it).

The middle compartment is great for computer accessories or anything you might want to put in there. I just feel the design is great and this Lapdesk is great. Hopefully it would hold up for more then a year. I recommend this CoolSurf product, I use a 14-15″ Laptop as well.

Hope my review has added to your decision.

    Thanks.

  2. I looked at a lot of cooling mats and lap desk before I choose this one. I have been putting the laptop on my lap – since I burned out three laptops this way so I decided to try something new. This mat keeps the computer elevated while the built in fans disipate the heat. The rubber top keeps the laptop from slipping and cushioned base keeps it stable. I have had it about six months and I am very happy with it.

  3. Got this for Xmas, and it’s broken already. The port where you connect the cable to the lapdesk is already broken. I’ve had it connected the whole time I’ve used it so far, so it’s not that it’s even been plugged in and out a lot and got damaged that way. I tried another cable, same problem…it won’t stay in properley…I have to jiggle it about or move my legs a bit to have the fan come back on.

On the pro side, it’s extremely comfortable to have my lap, and stops my legs from getting hot. I will be returning it for a replacement. I’ll update and let you know how that one works out.

01/27/2010 Update: They did send out a replacement, and the nice thing was, they didn’t ask for the broken one back. However, after a week or so, I can already tell that this one is going to have the same problem. The good thing is, at least my husband and I both have one to use on our laps for comfort. My fan is still working for now, but with the way the connection is looking, who knows for how long.

Fast forward a few months, and just want to update that the second one broke also, same way the first one did.

  4. My Dell Inspiron 1720, 17″, fits just fine. I was worried about slipping after reading some of the comments here but I’m not having a bit of problems. LOVE the little cubbies at the back where I can put some earbuds, pens and post-its, and the zip-up pockets underneath will definitely come in handy for traveling. LOVE this desk!

  5. great-just what i needed . stiff hands need a surface to write on even for crosswords, etc.

  6. After looking for a lap desk for some time, I saw this on Amazon and decided to give it a try. I’ve looked at them in the stores and online. I have found them upwards to $50.00 but didn’t want to spend that much. I have a 17″ laptop and this fits the bill just fine. Just like the picture shows, it has two padded rows on the bottom that rest comfortably on your lap. There are two zippered pouches on the bottom. They velcro up underneath or you can let them hang down the side. Great place to put the mouse when not in use. It is light weight and has a handle to carry it. This lap desk was less expensive than the others I looked at, but it does everything I need. I even have enough room to use my wireless mouse on the side. I am very happy with my purchase.

  7. It works just as it say it does and is very comportable to use. Reduces the heat generated from the computer as well. Great large working space, but small enough to fit in my comfy chair. I have even used it to paint my nails :)

  8. I ordered two lap desks from this company. They quickly arrived in three days. Originally, I was going to use these desks in the car, but I like them so much–I plan on using them everywhere. The design offers a huge usable workspace with a clip on the left side. The padding on the back is very full (seriously, you could flip it over and use it as a pillow–it’s that cushioned) and sits comfortably on either an adult or child’s lap and is covered with a really soft fleece that eliminates any chance of slipping. The plastic is thick and very durable yet they are light and include a handle slot that makes carrying two very easy. I am very pleased with this product and would certainly purchase from this company, again.

  9. i am enjoying the desk as it is what i needed for working on my laptop. i only wish it had a light

  10. The Jumbo Lap Desk is designed for use when working from a couch or recliner. When I got my first one, this was one of the few options for lap desks that could be described as a “good value.” I knew it wasn’t perfect, but it had enough positives to be worth a shot. Now there are many more options, and you should explore them.

Over time, the cons have become more annoying. If you only use this for reading or writing, it’s still a decent low-cost option. But if you use this with a laptop computer, the unit will crack and flex more and more over time. And if you replace it, that unit will crack too. Over time the beads in the cushion also start to leak more. I initially left my more expensive *wooden-top* lap desk at home because it felt a little too heavy to be portable. I now plan to start using that one more if possible.

This is still the *low cost* solution of lap-desks. I would urge you to consider the alternatives. Eventually this will bend and crack to the point of being distracting.

In terms of price, you have to factor in the shipping when buying from a third party. That’s not a deal-breaker and it’s probably not worth waiting to see if Amazon will ever sell it directly. I bought mine at a brick and mortar store, and it was only a few bucks cheaper. So it may be worth a premium for the convenience of home delivery.

    THE GOOD

This unit has many uses beyond just laptop use. The included clip and pencil / pen slots make it ideal for taking notes while reading. The built-in handle is convenient for carrying it. It’s so light though you really shouldn’t grab it there to move it with heavy things on the surface. But the light weight also makes this very portable.

A 17 inch laptop will fit on it, but is a little cramped if you’re using an external mouse. It’s perfectly sized for a 14 or 15 inch laptop along with a mouse. The beaded bottom is comfortable in your lap. And along with all of this, the best aspect of this unit has to be the lower price relative to the alternatives.

    THE BAD

The hard plastic surface bends and flexes, and over time it will crack. If you are only using this for reading or writing on it that is an acceptable flaw. But the weight of using this with a laptop will make the flexing and cracking worse. Mine cracked in the middle first, and pieces started breaking off. Then the handle cracked. Now if I lift it with something on top, it flexes dangerously. I opted to get another even though it was still useable. The excessive flexing just started to bother me. But the second one also started cracking in short order even though I handled with care.

This isn’t going to bother everybody but should be taken into account. You may still be able to get by with it long after it is cracked and chipped. For a while I didn’t think the flexing would be a deal-breaker for me, but over time it has become more distracting.

The cushion underneath is a little under-stuffed with beads and covered in a synthetic fabric that can be uncomfortable and hot. It’s still cooler than having a hot laptop on your legs, but in the summer time it can be uncomfortable. Over time, more and more of those beads start to leak out. Plan on cleaning them up.

    THE ALTERNATIVES

For my part, I plan on using my unit with a wood surface much more. It’s not sold here but is similar to the Wood Laptop Desk. Originally I kept it at home for occasional use, but since the wood won’t flex as much as this plastic top I am hoping that will hold up longer. It’s clearly heavier, otherwise I might not have used these units. Then again, that one cost me about $20 more than this, so it’s a trade-off.

Belkin’s CushTop Notebook Stand may be an alternative for those who use their laptops on their laps without a wireless mouse. It can be flipped over for use with a 15.4 inch laptop or a 17 inch widescreen, and comes in a variety of colors. The downsides are that it is somewhat thicker, adding height, it doesn’t provide as much extra work surface for using a mouse and it may hold heat more due to it’s cloth surface. The Belkin PocketTop Laptop Case has a storage area integrated with it but is not as solid as the cush-top.

Antec’s USB-Powered Notebook Cooler is great cooler, but not very comfortable when used directly on the lap. Some may opt to use this in combination with the Belkin cushtop or the Lap Desk. Others may not require any additional cooling, so the cush-top stand or the lap desk alone may be enough.

All of these options should be reviewed before choosing the one that best meets your needs.

    CONCLUSION

This will seem good enough for a while, but when it eventually starts to fail you will wish you had gotten something better. At the right price this can be a good value and a handy extra unit to have around. I would just recommend you look at some alternatives.

    Good luck with your choice.

  11. I’m a lefty. The clip is a problem. Why can’t it be on the right side. In your way, you say? Now you know how we lefties feel. Why not have a clip in the middle, below the handle? Then anyone can use it without the clip getting in the way.
