I really like the SmartFrench series. I took an introductory French class over the summer and I felt it gave me a huge advantage in the class, especially with what is arguably the most difficult part of learning French – the pronounciation. Probably most CD series would be helpful with pronounciation, as well as listening comprehension, but there is just something about the SmartFrench CDs that make them enjoyable and interesting. Their technique is a good one – analyzing real French language conversations to determine what the most commonly used words are, and also teaching with contractions. Christian Aubert has a nice voice to listen to, also. Good series.

Crazy English?
Let’s face it – English is a crazy language. There is no egg in eggplant, nor ham in hamburger; neither apple nor pine in pineapple. English muffins weren’t invented in England or French fries in France. Sweetmeats are candies while sweetbreads, which aren’t sweet, are meat. We take English for granted. But if we explore its paradoxes, we find that quicksand can work slowly, boxing rings are square and a guinea pig is neither from Guinea nor is it a pig. And why is it that writers write but fingers don’t fing, grocers don’t groce and hammers don’t ham? If the plural of tooth is teeth, why isn’t the plural of booth, beeth? One goose, 2 geese. So one moose, 2 meese? One index, 2 indices? Doesn’t it seem crazy that you can make amends but not one amend? If you have a bunch of odds and ends and get rid of all but one of them, what do you call it? If teachers taught, why didn’t preachers praught? If a vegetarian eats vegetables, what does a humanitarian eat? Sometimes I think all the English speakers should be committed to an asylum for the verbally insane. In what language do people recite at a play and play at a recital? Ship by truck and send cargo by ship? Have noses that French Secretary desk run and feet that smell? How can a slim chance and a fat chance be the same, while a wise man and a wise guy are opposites? You have to marvel at the unique lunacy of a language in which your house can burn up as it burns down.In which you fill in a form by filling it out and in which, an alarm goes off by going on. English was invented by people, not computers, and it reflects the creativity of the human race, which, of course, is not a race at all That is why, when the stars are out, they are visible, but when the lights are out, they are invisible. There is a two-letter word that perhaps has more meanings than any other two-letter word, and that is “UP.”It’s easy to understand UP, meaning toward the sky or at the top of the list, but when we awaken in the morning, why do we wake UP ? At a meeting, why does a topic come UP? Why do we speak UP and why are the officers UP for election and why is it UP to the secretary to write UP a report ? We call UP our friends. And we use it to brighten UP a room, polish UP the silver, we warm UP the leftovers and clean UP the kitchen. We lock UP the house and some guys fix UP the old car. At other times the little word has real special meaning. People stir UP trouble, line UP for tickets, work UP an appetite, and think UP excuses. To be dressed is one thing but to be dressed UP is special. And this UP is confusing: A drain must be opened UP because it is stopped UP. We open UP a store in the morning but we close it UP at night. We seem to be pretty mixed UP about UP! To be knowledgeable about the proper uses of UP, look the word UP in the dictionary. In a desk-sized dictionary, it takes UP almost 1/4th of the page and can add UP to about thirty definitions. If you are UP to it, you might try building UP a list of the many ways UP is used. It will take UP a lot of your time, but if you don’t give UP, you may wind UP with a hundred or more. When it threatens to rain, we say it is clouding UP. When the sun comes out we say it is clearing UP . When it rains, it wets the earth and often messes things UP. When it doesn’t rain for awhile, things dry UP One could go on and on, but I’ll wrap it UP , for now my time is UP, so……….. Time to shut UP! PS. – Why doesn’t “Buick” rhyme with “quick”More than 500,00 basic words in the English language.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/English_language#Number_of_words_in_English

  1. The design and functionality are great. The legs are a little thin making it a little wobbly, but still is sturdy enough to paint. The other problem I have is the finish. It is semi-finished. The suface is rough. But for the price it is great.

  2. It is advertised as $59.95 but with shipping at $14.95, its actually $74.90 total.

With that said it is still cheaper than all other brands. I have been going to various art stores in person and online to comparison shop. I needed one asap and it came fast, only a week to travel across country. I took a chance on this one and its really terrific. It is tough and stable enough for my needs. Over 6 years ago I used to draw caricatures for a company outdoors and the company works off of easels just like this one, old and beat-up by the elements.

Fresh out of the box its feels really light(important because of all the other stuff you have to carry), the legs screw in nice and tight, not wobbly and the adjustments are not sticky. Plus it comes with a carrying strap! Its great! If you need one, get this one, why pay more?

  3. I checked out the price and did much research before purchasing this easel-it is listed for well under the price at many art supply web sites. It really has two drawers-the one one you slide out and another underneath that drawer that is built into the easel-it is a great place to store your brushes. I think I will get a lot of use out of this in workshops, outdoors and anywhere I want to paint anytime. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is because the legs are little wobbly-you really need to tighten up the bolts well to get it to stay upright in the correct position. But it is lightweight and portable-so you can’t have everything. All in all-a great product for the money.

  4. I got it for my son. He was very pleased with it. It was a good price. It came in a timely manner.

  5. This sleeve was a alot brighter in color than I had expected and unfortunately it was too small for my Studio Dell laptop, so I had to return it. But overall, the quality is great and if it had of fit I would have kept it.

  6. The colors on this are bright but prettier than the picuture. a perfect fit to my 14in laptop.

  7. I love this laptop sleeve. I wanted a sleeve so I could put my laptop in larger bags and still have it protected. It fits my Macbook Pro 15″ perfectly!! I love the pattern and the pink on the inside. They are not designed to fit all the contours of your laptop – they have an hourglass shape to them. It fits my laptop snuggly and also leaves a little room on the corners to stick a few extra items that I might need. Highly recommend.

  8. The laptop sleeve was a gift for my granddaughter. It was just as described. She liked the fabric, the pattern and the overall appearance and has enjoyed using it.

  9. Awesome laptop case, fits my 15.5″ Dell Inspiron 15 perfectly. But instead of shipping me this awesome ‘french bull vine’ pattern, they shipped me a plain purple one. Kind of disappointing. Being impatient like I am, I just kept it. Works all the same, just not as “pretty” :)

So beware of that. Otherwise, great product. Fits snug. Seems durable.

  10. This is a great product for laptop users, not only do I love the print but it arrived in a timely manner and I am very pleased!!!!!

  11. This sleeve is Awesome! I Love It!..It fits my 15.6 Dell Laptop perfect and keeps my Laptop protected from dents and scratches while carrying it in my book bag, and its good to look at! This is a well made product…and Its worth every penny…

  12. I was looking for a laptop sleeve for my 15.6″ acer laptop and this one fit perfectly. I originally ordered the french bull vine design, but received the plum colored sleeve instead. it was a beautiful color, so i simply decided to keep it. There was some dust on it, but it wiped off easily with a wet cloth.

I also ordered the 10″ laptop sleeve (bull vine design) for my Phillips 9″ portable DVD player (thickness is 1.25″) and it also fit perfectly. No complaints. I love BuiltNY products! The colors are rich and vivid and the quality is superb.
