Do you like my book so far?
“Amy Benson WAKE UP!!!!! It’s your first day of school! Aren’t you excited?!?!?!”“Sure.” I reply drowsily.“Okay well be ready in 45 minutes so that you won’t be late. I’ll be in the car.” My mom says, walking out the door.Sighing, I get out of my snug bed and get dressed in my favorite pair of jeans, and a fitted turquoise tee shirt. I brush my slightly wavy, brown hair, wash my face, and put in my contacts over my green eyes and head down the stairs. My dog pepper is waiting at the foot of the stairs ready for me to walk her. I put on a brown pair of boots, snatch the leash and head out the door. People always say that they don’t like walking their dog, I always have. It is so relaxing just to go outside for a little bit to escape from the real world and just play with your dog. Dodging all the puddles left over from last night’s storm, Pepper does her thing and we head back inside. My mom is waiting in the car just like she said she would be. I grab my bag, and a protein bar, and head out the door.“Good morning Amy you ready for your first day of tenth grade?”“Yeah, just a little tired.” I reply.“Well you will get to see all of your friends again. That should be fun, getting to catch up after the long break.” Mom responds. She starts the car leaving the house and heads off to West Oak High. I never really liked school, but it never bothered me that much either. I used to be in the popular group, with a countless amount of friends. Then I got in a fight with Carly, the “leader” of the group and got myself kicked out. Now I have some real friends. Amanda and Brandon are my best friends.“Have fun!” Mom says as she pulls up to the school. Sucking in a deep breath, I emerge from the car. One step at a time, you don’t want to fall and embarrass yourself on the first day of school. Oh well I still trip, falling into a puddle with mud flying everywhere.“Wonderful” I whisper. “Amy!” Amanda calls, “ are you alright?” she bends down to Oak Teachers desk help pick me up, “You know, tomorrow you should be more careful.” she says jokingly.“I’ll try.”“Okay well lets go to the bathroom and try to get this disgusting mud off your shirt.”We dodge through the throngs of students that are suddenly arriving trying to get to the bathroom before everyone else. I try to get off the water and mud on my shirt but some still stays on. It looks like someone pooped on my shirt. We leave the bathroom, with my hands trying to cover the stain from anyone’s view. I make a left and head to room 220 while Amanda goes to room 216. “See you at lunch!” Amanda calls.“ Hey Benson nice top!” Josh cackles through all the commotion as I enter the room. I don’t reply. He was my best guy friend until the “incident”. I guess he wasn’t really my friend after all. I begin heading to a desk that is next to a window while trying to avoid any paper airplanes hitting me in the head. “Hey Amy haven’t seen you in almost three weeks. Hows Pepper?” Brandon asks from behind me.“Oh hi Brandon, Pepper is doing fine although she is looking thinner since you went to sleep away camp. Hey, when was the last time you got your hair cut? It looks a lot longer.” The last time I saw him, he had just got his curly blonde hair cut, now it is up to his dark brown eyes.“A while.” he admits. The teacher suddenly walks into the room, everyone starts to become quiet,“Welcome students to the wonderful year ahead of you in West Oak High. I am Ms. Granelda, your english teacher for the year. This year we are going to be focusing on poetry- the beauty of this language.” Ms.Granelda exclaims over-excitingly. I roll my eyes, now I see why everyone calls her a crazy teacher. She is overly happy, not my type. Ms. Granelda began handing out a sheet about poetry: “Poetry is literary work in which particular intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm…” She starts.“Zzzzzzzzz… this is boring can we do something else?” Zack the wanna-be cool red head calls out. “ Excuse me Mister but we are learning poetry this year and if you have a problem with that go to the principle’s office now!” Ms. Granelda screams. I’ll try to stay on her good side. Zack jumps out of his seat just as the bell rings. I grab my stuff and head to my next class.Brandon rushes to catch up with me,“So Amy, where is your next class? Mine is in room 215, Mr. Hunt.”“Same here. I wonder if Amanda is also in our class. Just imagine, math last year all over again.”“That would be pretty cool.” Brandon say with a smirk on his face.We stepped into Mr. Hunts class. Amanda was there talking to a girl named Jennifer, I don’t really know her that well.“Everyone, please take your seat quickly. I am Mr. hunt to everyone even you Chris.”“But Dad!” Chris whines from the back of the classroom.“No buts I am Mr. Hunt, your science teacher. This year, we will be learning life science, other wise known asbiology.” His voice boomed through the room. “Now class, the first thing that we are learning about are cells. Cells are the smallest structural and functional unit of an organism.”Mr. Hunt keeps talking on and on about cells. He is -so far- a very boring teacher. I try to pay attention but my mind just can’t stay focused. Oh well I’ll just have to make up the work some other day. The bell finally rings. I gather all of my stuff and walk over to Amanda.“Hi how was your first period?” I ask as we start walking down the hall to lunch.“It was definitely more entertaining than science.” She says while tucking her curly black hair behind her ear. We walk into the lunch room swarming with hungry kids. “Are you buying today? I’m not.” I nod my head yes. “Okay I’ll save you a seat.” I walk to the seemingly endless line of people buying. I take a few more steps to see that the menu today was macaroni and cheese. That was what I had for lunch yesterday. I’ll have a salad.NO OFFENSE TAKEN FOR CRITICISM. IT WILL MAKE THE BOOK BETTER.
