This is made of particle board & laminate–that much I knew. I wasn’t expecting a fine piece of furniture, but what I WAS expecting was that it would be packaged well enough to survive shipping. It wasn’t. It arrived with one bad “crunch” in the upper right corner and a couple other minor crunches. Because we’re using it in a fairly utilitarian spot, looks don’t matter too much and, functionally, it still works. It isn’t worth the hassle of contacting customer service to resolve this. The fact that it was damaged in more than one place on the box, resulting in several different injuries to the item, means that their packaging is NO WHERE NEAR as sturdy as it needs to be. Damage aside, the piece is functional and works well as a mail-sorting station by our back door. It is laminate & particle board and some of the pieces COULD meet up a little bit better. The fiberboard (brown in the photo) shelves should be a little more substantial–when built as-shown, they aren’t rigid

  1. I love the service of Computer Geeks. My unit came with a broken box, and some parts have problems to assemble. I was surprised how fast Computer Geeks responded to my complaint. They sent me a brand new unit in one day by a rush delivery without asking for a returning of my old one. The product now works great for me. It is a perfect match for my reclining sofa.

  2. The desk is compact, but I still can fit some of the essentials on the side bar. It is easily adjustable and fits perfectly in the interior of the room. The item arrived in the perfect condition, with all the parts included. I am pleased.

  3. Everything arrived perfectly and in no time was assembled. Looks nice and easy to adjust. The only downside is it needs a sandbag or something on the legs to hold things more stable it’s a bit wobbly on carpet but works fine otherwise. I do use the table fully extended and works perfectly for holding laptop while riding recumbent exercise bike. Perfect to surf the net and exercise.

  4. We’ve ordered 24+ laptop carts like this one and some not a “split-top” from various vendors in the past 6 months for a project here at work. In order to meet our deadlines, I couldn’t get enough from just one vendor so I had to order from many. Unfortunately, this is the only one we bought of this model and the only one of all the carts we bought that fell apart (a wheel weld broke loose) after just 30 days ….just after the return policy wouldn’t you know! Sure it’s only $50 but the fact that the thing didn’t even last 30 days! Where’s the quality control! And even if it was within the return period, how in the heck do you package it up to return it! Sorry for venting — it’s just frustrating. But it’s a peril of ordering online I guess.

  5. We ship out small packages containing books & DVDs. Having this scale saves us trips to the post office. Excellent value for the price.

  6. Works as I anticipated. Nice to have the electric outlet component vs. just battery operated.

  7. My previous scale had a “lifetime” battery, I learned that means about 5 years. I purchased this scale because of the description and other reviews. It is nice for many reasons. It is compact so it can be left out and not take up much room or it can easily be stored in a small place. I love the ‘hold’ button which allows you to put a large box on the platform, weigh the item and when you remove the item the actual weight remains on the screen for you to see. It does have an envelope flap so you can weigh envelopes laying flat or standing up.
When I first purchased it, I weighed 2 different envelopes that were questionable by .1 ounce (at the post office if your package goes over by .1 ounce you need to round up which can add up in postal fees). The post office confirmed the weight that the scale gave to me so I knew it was reading accurately ~ that sure was nice to know! No one wants a customer to receive a package that has to be picked up the post office because they owe extra postal fees.
I also love the fact that it has a power cord that comes with it so no more batteries AND I did not have to purchase the power adaptor separately ~ it was all in the same box!
Overall I would recommend this to anyone that would require a scale that weighs objects upto 10 pounds. If you own a business, it would depend on how heavy your objects are going to be! I cannot tell you how long it will read accurately over time or how long it will last, but right now I am very pleased with it.

  8. Works great, even smaller than I thought but that’s good – the display stays lit after you remove the package so you can use it for larger packages as well.

  9. Assembly was very fast, though it had a lot of parts and easily could have been too challenging. All parts had labels which matched what was in the instructions….sooo ez to follow. It’s a fine product too. There’s not much to say about “how” to use it, if you see the picture and still don’t know how you’d use it, you’ve got bigger problems than making a purchasing decision.
What I will say is it has a nice balance of spacing-utility types and I think you have some options for personal preferences, but I just built what they suggested.
Gold medal to the instructions writeres.

  10. I did a lot of reading the reviews of this and other similar products before I bought this item. It is a little expensive, but I like its appearance and find it sturdy enough for home use. I did not find the wordless instructions difficult to follow (just like IKEA furniture). Taking heed of others gone before me who had trouble with the water-activated glue, I constructed the whole thing without gluing the parts together, and it’s holding just fine. I would have given it 5 stars except for the price and the slightly problematic assembly.

  11. I ordered this tray for my 4 yr old to use when he eats in the den (on special occasions). He really likes it and feels like a big boy when he uses it. Also, it’s easy for him to fold up and put away. However, I wish I had got the one with handles!

  12. I bought this item to replace a wooden lap tray & I have to say that it has done the job well. It’s sturdy & can be tilted. So my family can use it for eating or for arts & crafts. I even use it with the wife’s netbook & some portable USB speakers to set up a nice little viewing station in bed. Paid about $22. Fair price for a good product. I recommend it for eating, personal productivity or for a nice play for your children to play.

  13. I’ve used this every day since I got it a couple of weeks ago … to hold my netbook in bed. It seems well-made and it’s big enough to use the mouse comfortably. I’m not sure how it would do with a larger laptop (although it seems large enough), but it’s perfect for this.

  14. Pieces started breaking off shortly after I started using it. For instance, the magnet completely broke off within a week. The edges of the top piece that the tray is connected to are connected by heavy duty staples that do not hold, especially if you sit your laptop on it. I’ve had to tap them back into place a few times. I am disappointed but what do you expect for $20. I use it for reading or eating. Do not recommend for laptop or anything heavy.
