Patient 102 has just died. Move her out of the bed ASAP. Dr. James will announce to her family.Fati is 32 years old intern who recently graduated from university with 7 years of studies under her belt. Hello Michael it is fati, can you send few nurses to room 102 as the patient died and we need to remove her.Fati asks the nurses to remove the dead patient.. She goes out of Bankys hospital. She goes to coffee shop were she usually frequents for silence time. Fati remembers it was just three days ago when patient 102 was admitted to the ICU. It was 17 july 1951 around twelve mid night…A middle aged woman with her husband came to the reception of the hospital. The lady complained about severe headache and that she cannot move half of her right side…the nurse at the desk told her to take a seat.. Dr James the head of the Neurology department was in duty. The lady was ushered to James office, she told him exactly what she was complaining about and he told her you are hysteric and prescribed some antibiotics. The desk Kidney patient was gone…..Soon after ten hours the same woman with her husband returned and she complained to the nurse at the reception that she have severe pain and cannot move her right side….Dr. James was in his office with an engineer who he was negotiating with him on the pricing of his up coming house. The nurse told him it is the same lady that came last night and she has the same complain. The nurse comes out and says we will just give you some pain killers. …After 2 years the woman collapsed in her house and was brought to the hospital by ambulance. ..Move away, quickly the patient from the ambulance was sent for scan as Dr. James ordered. Fati in the scan room started panicking and asked the nurse who is the local neurosurgeon on call? The nurse at the other end started shouting Dr. James , she’s his patient. Five intercoms started buzzing all at the same time. Hello Hello, Dr. James the patient has internal bleeding of the brain. The patient was transferred immediately to the ICU room 102. After two hours she had kidney failure. It was visable to all the doctors and nurses that she won’t make it. Dr. James the patient in 102 just had kidney failure. Dr. James was in the middle of conversation with his long term partner. He asked the nurse on the intercom that he is busy and not to be disturbed. As an intern it is partly her duty to cover the ICU section patients. The next day fati could not contemplate the rumors going around the hospital that the patient in room 102 is Dr. James patient and he did not even visit her. In the corridors of the ICU were the relatives of the patient 102 but I don’t know who is who so I just proceeded to the room. When I saw the patient she was alone with one doctor at the far end chatting and flirting with a nurse…She had heart failure after three hours and started bleeding from her mouth and ears. One hour after that she died. That was the biggest shock in my entire life I actually started crying. I cried not because she died but the malpractice by the most senior doctor and he doesn’t give a damn. Now here I am in sofia’s café thinking in silence.
