I use a silicon mat with this tray, making it very useful for mealtime. Remove the mat and voile: it is a desk with convenient grooves for pencils and pens. The legs are hollow support pillars that create a space to store newspapers, magazines and the TV Guide. In addition, the central area of the tray tilts out to support books and magazines for optimum reading comfort. I like it a lot.

my idiot father hammered nails into the sides antiques desk of a very expensive antique wooden desk?
how would that devalue the desk?

  1. Beautiful, well made, sturdy chimes. Love them, and an using them in my office as an alternative to the counter top bell customers ring to alert me.

  2. I bought one of these 20 yrs. ago and have to buy another now. Cannot recommend it enough. Well made and a very beautiful sound. I just love the tinkling of the bells.

  3. This bell is sturdy and sweet. It’s very Victorian. I love the tinkling of the bells and it’s welcoming to those who enter. I know right away when my kids go in and out!

  4. The product is exactly what I was looking for but couldn’t find because I did not know what the correct name was for it. “That bell ‘thingy’ that used to hang on shop doors” just didn’t cut it when searching for the product. Once I knew to look for “shopkeepers bell” it was easy. This product is well made of real brass and is practical as well as beautiful. I only gave it a four star because I had to figure out how to keep the top on as it tends to unscrew as the bells(there are three) rotates. Ended up drilling a very, very small hole in the top and screwing in a brass screw to secure the top. One injured finger later the bell was mounted and delightfully announces whomever uses my back door–much better than the alarm buzzer that comes with the alarm system. If you don’t want the bells to ring just put a piece of tape on the hanging pendulum and silence reigns. Couldn’t be better. This would be great for a busy family trying to keep track of just where the kids are!!!

  5. I love the look of this computer desk – especially with the additional hutch added. So, if you are going for looks and don’t plan on using it at all – go for it.
    PROS:
    Attractive aesthetic features
    CONS:
EXTREMELY easy to scratch any of the surfaces
Time consuming to assemble (I did both the hutch and desk at the same time – took 6 hours by my self)
Plastic “locks” on front keyboard drawer broke after 6 weeks of use (they keep the panel with the aesthetic handles up when not in use)
Not ideal for larger computer towers
Difficult to reach back of computer tower

Definitely not a good choice if you have small children who use the computer. Even for frequent adult users, the quality just isn’t there. I rarely regret my purchases, but this one is one I wish I had never ever made. Poor quality to invest your money in. Ah, but then, you get what you pay for. Pity … it looks so nice from a distance.

  6. The desk is sturdy and stylish. It comes in pieces and assembles easily. The fasteners are packaged by group and clearly labeled. I had one piece that was broken but I glued it back together and fastened to the keyboard drawer as-is without any problems. The drawer on the left is pretty small. The door on the left should hold a full size tower without problems. I have an iMac, so did not need to hide a tower. I use this space for storage using old Amazon.com shipping boxes to organize things.

There is a foot helf on the bottom. I put my power strip, external HDD, and some packaged software down there out of the way.

The keyboard drawer is a nice size. It holds a slim keyboard and a mouse with pad nicely. There is even a little room for a scratch pad behind the keyboard.

  7. I have been a customer of amazon for everything I buy on net for a long time but this piece of junk
has made me think that I lucked out
This was the worst purchase, advertisement that its cherry is false and its mainly compressed wood except the table top
the desk is unstable and rips apart despite providing steel support on each side
I dont think it can even stand the weight of the cpu
sorry amazon I got tricked and so are the others
    deepak

  8. This is junk. I am so tired of putting new screws in this desk to keep it from leaning to the right or the left. Yes, the bolts are well tightened, yet it is so cheaply made, they don’t hold the desk straight. The draws get stuck every five minutes. I am going to have to tear this apart to dispose of it so I can get a new desk. Bad, bad quality.

  9. This lamp does the trick: it’s nice looking and solidly made and casts a pleasant bright light. It is heavily weighted in its base, so it stands firmly on top of the piano and is not wobbly at all. The slightly high shipping cost is probably due to this weight.

Two minor nits to pick: it doesn’t come with bulbs (it uses two specialty ‘T’ bulbs that you need to go to a hardware store to find), and its switch is on the cord about 1 foot down from the base of the lamp. This means that you can’t put the lamp in the middle of the piano and run the cord behind the piano, because then the switch is unreachable behind the piano. So we run the cord all along the top of the piano and off the edge of it. A switch on the lamp itself would make more sense. Also, I haven’t found this type of bulb in a fluorescent – so you have to burn 80 watts in this thing. But overall, recommended.

  10. I am often bed-bound. This desk has been very useful to me. It supports an average-sized laptop, even when the desk part is elevated. I like this feature because I can type while looking at a screen that is almost eye level. And in the meantime, I am not straining my neck. It also keeps the laptop weight off of my lap.
It is very sturdy. I have used it as a dinner table, as a writing surface, and as already mentioned a laptop table.
I don’t find the side baskets very useful. If you put books in it, the desk becomes too heavy to manage. It can be cumbersome to move around in bed. And it does not collapse, so it takes up some space in the bedroom. But, I sewed a cover for it that matches my bedding and it goes well in my bedroom.
There is plenty of leg-room to maneuver without feeling constrained.
Overall, I am very happy with this tray and would purchase it again.

  11. The shipping on this item took longer than expected but it is very sturdy and has plenty of room. The tilt feature is a good idea but there are only two settings. I have a 13″ macbook that fits perfectly but I would not recommend this for anything larger than that.

  12. First, it arrived very quickly and was in perfect condition. There were no scratches, cracks, etc. and the walnut finish is really lovely. Also, there was no assembly required – a definite plus, for me.

I bought this table while I was looking after my mother, who recently had spinal surgery. For the first couple of weeks she spent most of her time in bed, and this table made the world of difference. With a neck brace on, she had limited mobility to look down, so the adjustable shelf was perfect for bringing things closer to her. While raised, it easily supported her reading materials and also her laptop, so the screen was eye-level.

The side compartments are great for storage, though the slats are very wide. We made liners for the interior and that minor problem was solved. She kept her knitting on one side and books and magazines on the other. It made my job easier, since all I really had to do was move the table either on the bed or off — no searching around for the bag of crafts and then the books and pens, etc., etc. Everything was right there and ready to go. Also, for meals we would just lower the shelf back down.

I am extremely pleased with this product – it really was a great find! Functional and aesthetically pleasing.

  13. Well, since we just got these bed table/desks, we really can’t say how they’ll hold up, but they seem to be sturdily built and are intelligently designed. There’s even a groove on the top to keep pens or pencils in. They fit comfortably over our legs — and my husband is a big man. The top can lie flat for eating or to put your laptop on, or it can be tilted easily and with stability for reading or hand writing. Everything is finished smoothly. No rough spots. For the price, they’re amazing.
