This is an excellent desk lamp if you can live with the one flaw: The base
is too light. Adjusting the lamp may tip the lamp (so you must hold the
base), and bending the lamp over at an angle, depending on the angle,
will also tip the lamp.

Looking for a desk chair?
I am having a very hard time finding a colorful desk chair desk Arm that is able to spin and has arm rests for my room…If anyone can tell me a good place to look for one, or even links to a chair that would be great! =]Thank you!

  1. I wanted to free up some space on my desk top as well as the ability to rotate my monitor. I decided to try the 3M mount. Wow, was I surprised at what I got. Very easy to install. It went up in a few short minutes. Very easy to use. I was immediately able to move my monitor in all 3 dimensions. It is a little stiff at first but that keeps it in place as it floats the monitor in space over your desk. 90 degree rotation was no problem. It’s a snap to rotate it to scan through long web pages. This is a big advantage of a widescreen monitor IF you can rotate it 90 degrees. I was so happy with my purchase I bought a second one for my other computer. This thing just flat out works exactly as it should. It is pricy but worth it!

  2. At $95 currently, 3M’s monitor arm isn’t as cheap as the alternatives but it is a good product regardless. The arm is exceptionally sturdy with a swooping design to each of the arm components that gives it a certain solid attractiveness. It comes with clamp and grommet options for mounting to the desk, and two separate plates for mounting to monitors. It’s rated to hold up to 18 pounds. With the slimming of today’s LCD monitors, that’s guaranteed to be good through 22-23 inch monitors. Full swing, tilt, pan and swivel movement is possible with this arm and retains position when moved from one orientation to the other (some mechanical adjustment is required up front to set the right friction).

I don’t know that I’d buy such a product at $95, but it’s apparent that it’s built to last and there’s no cut corners. So it justifies a good rating and if you see this for a price that justifies the use you’d get out of it, at least you’ll know there’s no need to hesitate on the basis of quality.

  3. Overall I’m happy with this purchase.

    What I didn’t like:

    1) There are a couple of places on the base where the black paint was rubbed off a bit, enough to see some of the underlying silver metal color a little. It’s not too noticeable but Ledu needs to have better quality control. The rest of the lamp has no such flaws.

    2) There are no instructions to attach the bulb cover to the lamp and the solution isn’t obvious. If you look closely enough you’ll see three very subtle grooves in the cover that match to three pins in the lamp. You can basically screw the cover into the lamp (turning it clockwise) but it might take you a few tries because it’s not as easy as screwing in a light bulb for example.

    3) In the past I’ve used much bigger swing-arm lamps and remember them being very easy to orient into all positions with just one hand. This lamp isn’t one of those. While the joints aren’t incredibly stiff, the problem is that the base wants to tip so you’re fighting that a bit while positioning. When raising the lamp as high as it will go, two hands (one holding the base) are pretty much required. I haven’t had the lamp very long so maybe it’ll loosen up.

There are also knobs you can tighten at each joint if you have the opposite problem.

The top part (where the bulb is) is much easier to position with one hand and that’s probably the only thing I’ll need to adjust on a regular basis.

    4) Considering the previous points and the size of the lamp, I also think this lamp is overpriced. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a cheaper one that I liked.

    Other notes:

    1) Inside the bulb cover it warns about too much heat if you use anything greater than a 13-watt CFL bulb. Maybe that’s just to protect themselves from lawsuits. The socket also accepts regular incandescent bulbs.

I found that the included 13-watt CFL bulb (60-watt equivalent) was more than enough for a desk. In fact I’m going to buy something in the 1 to 5-watt range because I keep the room and screen quite dark and I don’t want the lamp to overpower things or cause glare on the screen.

    2) The black parts of the lamp are truly black. The product picture on this webpage makes it look like dark gray.

    3) The maximum vertical reach from the bottom of the bulb to the desk is about 15″. The misleading 22″ claim in the advertising is from the top of the lamp to the desk.

    4) The maximum horizontal reach from the center of the base to the center of the bulb is about 11.5″. The base itself is about 6″ in diameter.

I keep the lamp on the front edge of my desk so the limited reach isn’t a problem for me.

  4. I needed a lamp to fit in my new computer desk hutch, so it couldn’t be too tall, but I wanted more adjustability and a heavier base than the usual cheapo gooseneck. This fits the bill nicely but it is a little pricey (why I only gave 4 stars). I use a CFL bulb (energy savings!) with it. The only thing that would make it better is if they included a power outlet in the base.

  5. We had ordered one lamp like this from another website and they kept
postponing the ship date up to three months. Cancelled that order, and
ordered from Amazon and it arrived very quickly within 4 days.
It works well and love it.

  6. This monitor stand is very sturdy and flexible. It went together easily in only a few minutes and has worked wonders in opening up work space on my desk. Both monitors are now at the same height – making it much easier to read and transfer documents from one to the other. I was also able to raise the monitors to eye level rather than having to tilt them up or slouch over to comfortably read the screens. Overall a great addition to my desk space.

  7. Much heavier duty than I expected for the money. Many other models I looked at were 2 to 3 times the cost so I was a little suspect but it arrived on time, set up was fast and this thing is sold.

  8. For months I had been looking for a dual monitor stand. There are a lot of them out there but not for the price I think they should go for. I finally found a stand that is affordable. I went to looking at around $180 down to $50, Incredible. This stand is of great quality! Sturdy! My Dual Asus 24.6″ monitors couldn’t be happier with their new home. EASY set-up, I was a little worried when I opened the box and saw a little slip of paper for instructions. Five minutes later I was plugging the monitors in. It’s that easy. Comes with an allen wrench to make the arms as stiff or limp as you want. Lets see, I’ve got price, excellent. Quality, excellent. Speedy delivery, excellent. Overall, OUTSTANDING!

  9. I thought that this stand was very easy to set up. I have monitors from two different manufacturers and the backing plate on the stand accommodated them easily. About the only complaint I have are the cable clips attached to the stand. They are flimsy and come apart easily from the slightest pressure. Now if someone could create a clever way to hide all of those computer cables.

  10. I work on plants with a microscope in order to determine the propagation of plant colors between cells and needed a portable magnifying lens for cutting. I had older versions which attached to a lab bench and was disappointed. I needed something I could just pick up and carry to some location. This I tried and it was perfect. Good magnification, good light, very sturdy, compact and portable, It compares with many of the best I have seen. It arrived on time and in great shape and the price was less than half of my typical lab supplier. Great product, I used it all summer with great results.

  11. I wasn’t sure about getting a fluorescent lamp as the lighting tends to be harsh and un-natural. This lamp is great. it shines a nice light on your desk/table surface. the lens magnifies wonderfully. the base is solid and heavy enough to not worry about it toppling over. the vendor sent it to me in only a few days (and before Christmas!). i would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a magnifying lamp.
