Franklin Produts are known to be limited and cheaply made. I paid $25 for this product because it was originally listed close to $100 several months ago. However, I over paid for this product and should of gone with my gut and not of purchased it. The technology seems to be late 80’s and very basic. You can only find one word at a time and the dictionary is very small and worthless. I traveled to south america and gave up using this hunk of junk after 1 hour. Hard to see the screen, limited vocabulary, can’t understand the audio playback of the words, and you can’t form sentences. Good thing for me I was able to get online with my I-touch and use google translator which is free. I strongly sugguest you save your cash and use the free technology online to form sentences and translate real day activities. I will never use franklin products again, even if it was given to me. There must be a better portable product on the market because it would hard to find something this generic.

I wish the keyboard were lighted, as the display. The lighted display is useless without the keyboard’s light.
The Franklin BES-2150 was a big disappointment.I found that there many Spanish words that were not available and I had to look them up in my pocket dictionary.
The Spanish phrases are spoken unclearly.Word by word is OK.The display is difficult to read under most lighting conditions.The instructions are difficult to follow and are poorly written.
I haven’t used the translator a lot yet–just on a recent brief trip to Mexico. The main disappointment is the lack of ability to look up phrases, and the inability to translate whole phrases rather than single words. For example, I typed in “que pasa” and it didn’t find it. Same with “mucho gusto” and “como estas” (I tried both in the dictionary and the search in the phrases section). So far, it appears this will work well if you want a dictionary, but not as a translator. Pretty expensive replacement for a pocket dictionary though.
The Franklin BES-2150 works as advertised. Very compact and portable. After researching similar products, this seems the best in terms of portability and features. I would like the next iteration to have a manual backlite feature that I could turn on and off so I could use it in low-lite environments.
The spanish translator is convienent and a good learning tool. I thought it would translate entire sentences that I entered but it only does single words. Although it does have full explanations for using words in context which makes for extra learning of the language. The screen can be hard to see even with the back light on.
Well the product arrived on time and seems in great condition. Works great too and is quite useful to me.
This review is for the Franklin Merrian-Webster Speaking Spanish-English Dictionary (BES-1850)
I bought one of these items about 5 years ago. It was very helpful for my Spanish studies. The audio is acceptable but not great. Verbs can be easily conjugated. The screen display is adequate although in today’s era it may be considered small. Five years ago the screen size was more than acceptable. This item can be expanded to add ebooks to it. The ebooks are not the greatest to read on this translator but is OK if it is all you have. If you are looking for just an ebook reader then this is NOT the device for you. If you are looking for a Spanish-English dictionary then this item is great, plus it will pronounce the words for you (although not the greatest pronunciation). Spanish students will understand the audio enough for it to be helpful.
This is not much more than a dictionary with a difficult to read screen. I think I expected more of a “Babblefish” type translation device where I could input a phrase I needed to speak. This device only allows single word input. The “phrases” described in the marketing refers to pre-set common phrases, and is very poorly organized with no search capabilities outside of major categories. It would be good in emergencies (such as when you go blank trying to remember a specific word), but unfortunately its too big to slide into a pocket.

We had Reader’s Digest encyclopedic dictionary before but they no longer print one and ours was about 17 years old.
It fills our needs very well and it is cheaper than buying it in a book store.
I got tired of looking up words in my pocket dictionary, and not finding them. Maybe, I took a step too far in the other direction, but I’m finding all of the words now. This dictionary is great, with many interesting color pictures that catch your attention. The risk is, that I’ll set aside the book I was reading and start browsing this dictionary. Note that it is very heavy.

This dictionary is too politically correct. It short-changes the great American leaders – minimizing their contributions, while going into great detail about other historical figures.
Couldn’t get any better translator than this unless it would be one to pronounce the words. Easy to use and small to carry.
Defective product. I bought three translators and two were defective. The third translator, who still keep in my power present problems on the screen.
I know that I bought a cheap item, but I trust the quality of products previously purchased through Amazon.
It was definitely a bad buy and to this day I do not have a news of two translators who were returned: 05 – 27 2009.
