This is made of particle board & laminate–that much I knew. I wasn’t expecting a fine piece of furniture, but what I WAS expecting was that it would be packaged well enough to survive shipping. It wasn’t. It arrived with one bad “crunch” in the upper right corner and a couple other minor crunches. Because we’re using it in a fairly utilitarian spot, looks don’t matter too much and, functionally, it still works. It isn’t worth the hassle of contacting customer service to resolve this. The fact that it was damaged in more than one place on the box, resulting in several different injuries to the item, means that their packaging is NO WHERE NEAR as sturdy as it needs to be. Damage aside, the piece is functional and works well as a mail-sorting station by our back door. It is laminate & particle board and some of the pieces COULD meet up a little bit better. The fiberboard (brown in the photo) shelves should be a little more substantial–when built as-shown, they aren’t rigid

Assembly was very fast, though it had a lot of parts and easily could have been too challenging. All parts had labels which matched what was in the instructions….sooo ez to follow. It’s a fine product too. There’s not much to say about “how” to use it, if you see the picture and still don’t know how you’d use it, you’ve got bigger problems than making a purchasing decision.
What I will say is it has a nice balance of spacing-utility types and I think you have some options for personal preferences, but I just built what they suggested.
Gold medal to the instructions writeres.
I bought this item to replace a wooden lap tray & I have to say that it has done the job well. It’s sturdy & can be tilted. So my family can use it for eating or for arts & crafts. I even use it with the wife’s netbook & some portable USB speakers to set up a nice little viewing station in bed. Paid about $22. Fair price for a good product. I recommend it for eating, personal productivity or for a nice play for your children to play.
I ordered this tray for my 4 yr old to use when he eats in the den (on special occasions). He really likes it and feels like a big boy when he uses it. Also, it’s easy for him to fold up and put away. However, I wish I had got the one with handles!
I’ve used this every day since I got it a couple of weeks ago … to hold my netbook in bed. It seems well-made and it’s big enough to use the mouse comfortably. I’m not sure how it would do with a larger laptop (although it seems large enough), but it’s perfect for this.
Pieces started breaking off shortly after I started using it. For instance, the magnet completely broke off within a week. The edges of the top piece that the tray is connected to are connected by heavy duty staples that do not hold, especially if you sit your laptop on it. I’ve had to tap them back into place a few times. I am disappointed but what do you expect for $20. I use it for reading or eating. Do not recommend for laptop or anything heavy.
I did a lot of reading the reviews of this and other similar products before I bought this item. It is a little expensive, but I like its appearance and find it sturdy enough for home use. I did not find the wordless instructions difficult to follow (just like IKEA furniture). Taking heed of others gone before me who had trouble with the water-activated glue, I constructed the whole thing without gluing the parts together, and it’s holding just fine. I would have given it 5 stars except for the price and the slightly problematic assembly.
