Give me advice on the beginning of my story?
Well.I decided to follow my instincts before and write my crappy story. Here’s a few paragraphs of it:Life is like an incredibly bad soap opera. I drummed my nails against the pointless graffiti that was scrawled over half the wooden desk. With my other hand I made a fist and used it to hold up my head. Staring forward towards the teacher, I appeared to be just like the others, listening raptly to an exciting lecture on the Revolutionary War. I was preparing to ask to go to the restroom, when my attention was diverted by the swishing of the classroom door. My stomach instantly flipped as I suppressed a snicker at the girl standing in the doorway. She wore a long, floor-brushing red, purple and yellow skirt and turquoise sandals. Covering most of her vintage t-shirt was a knit black shawl, and her thick, dark hair was pinned to the top of her head with bobby pins. I looked down at my black miniskirt, white t-shirt,pink sweater, and long blonde hair and immediately saw that there were no similarities here. The room pulsated with the low echos of amusement. The principal, Ms. Johnson appeared in the doorway a moment afterward. “Ladies and gentlemen, it appears we have desk Occasional Table a new student here today. Her name is Stacia Donovan, and I’m sure she’d appreciate it if you would help her find some of her classes today. Have a nice day.” she enlightened us before strolling back into the hall. The class erupted into an unrepressible roar of laughter. The whole time, the new girl that stood in the door frame, head cocked, and a smirk on her face as if she were laughing at us. I took an instantaneous dislike to her. “Stacia, you can take a seat right here in front of Karen,” Mr. Klein gestured to the empty desk in front of me. Very casually, Stacia sauntered over to the desk, never taking her huge green eyes off of me.Right before she sat down, she sneered at me.That day at lunch, she sat alone. We were in the middle of discussing whether it’s better to put gel in your hair or use hair spray when she strolled into the lunchroom and plopped herself down at an abandoned table near the trash cans. It got incredibly quiet except for the occasional snicker as the entire eleventh grade stared at her. After a while she seemed to notice, and looked around, meeting as many students’ eyes as she could. Her eyes stopped on mine, and she smirked. That was the day I met Stacia Donovan. That day was the beginning of a startling chain of events that would drastically alter my life. The days came and went, and, just like a really bad soap opera, there was the occasional surreal drama that usually resulted in more drama, which resulted in your typical high school scene. Stacia went to the back of my mind. Parties and shopping and boyfriends consumed me, and until that one day I’d practically forgotten her existence. It was a Saturday morning. Just like any 16 year old girl would do when she’s asked to “please go grab the mail”, I slipped my bare feet into my slippers and headed down the block in my tank and pajama shorts. Just as I had jammed the key into the lock, something caught my eye. Someone.Down the block, about 50 yards away from me, a familiar looking dark haired, green-eyed girl was crossing the street. My mouth probably dropped open at the sight of that alone, but the next was definately ‘gasp-like-you’re-being-killed’ worthy. An old, dented Mazda, tires screeching, was tearing down the street.Right towards Stacia. That’s just the first chapter. It was crap, I know.I know it wasn’t very attention grabbing and was kind of cliche, but overall, just…how was it?Oh, and how can I improve it overall?
